WHATS HAPPENING AT FACILITRADE NDIS
Resilience Through Sport in a Post Pandemic World
I’d like to share with you some content from Macquarie Business School’s Dean’s Distinguished Speaker Series I attended in December 2021.
Paralympian and Macquarie Business School student Amy Ridley and four-time Olympian Cate Campbell OAM explore the theme, ‘Pushing the limits – balancing elite sport, resilience and forging a career path in a post pandemic world’.
The above video is about an hour long but I’m sure you’d be fascinated to hear what they have to say.
Some profound wisdom gleaned from Amy and Cate are that:
- Enjoyment in what you do helps you excel
- It’s not only success, but failure also spurs you on to succeed further and builds your resilience
- Life beyond participation in sports influences your career, social life, and personal wellbeing.
What impressed me most was their examples of the different ways to get to optimal state of performance and how to get the best out of yourself.
What more motivation for resilience than having Paralympian, Dylan Alcott receiving the prestigious Australian of the Year Award!
NDIS NEWS
Opportunity To Raise Your Concerns with the Disability Royal Commission
The Disability Royal Commission (DRC) is calling for registrations for private sessions and submissions of people wishing to share their experiences of violence, neglect, abuse, or exploitation.
Registrations are open till 30 June 2022. Those who wish to share their story can do so with a commissioner in a confidential setting.
People can make a submission either online, over the phone, email, video, song, or artwork. You can make multiple submissions and they can be in any language as the DRC will translate them.
Your participation in expressing the constraints and challenges you face as NDIS providers or participants through submissions will help prevent issues in the future and lead to improved and fairer NDIS policies, laws, and processes.
For more on how to make a submission or to register for a private session, go to the DRC website.
NDIS plan funding can be used to purchase RATs
Minister for the NDIS, Senator Linda Reynolds confirmed on 24 January 2022 that eligible NDIS participants can purchase Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs) with funding from their NDIS plan, so that they can continue to access reasonable and necessary supports safely in COVID-19 conditions:
- Participants can use their NDIS core funding to purchase RATs
- Free RATs are available to concession card holders, which includes the majority of NDIS participants
- Participants may also purchase RATs for their support workers to ensure they can safely receive supports and
- On a temporary basis NDIS is enabling eligible supported independent living participants and providers to claim up to $12.50 per RAT when a support worker is required to undergo COVID-19 testing to safely deliver supports to a participant.
More information is available on the NDIS website.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION

- As market competition is rife you must prepare your marketing strategies well to annex participants.
- Work collaboratively with other providers in the sector – you can offer services to their clients that they do not provide and vice versa
- Develop client engagement strategies
- Use the services of your Local Area Coordinators and Support Coordinators
